Oscar Gloukh, a young player for Red Bull Salzburg, praised Curtis Jones after playing against the Liverpool midfielder at the European under-21 Championships this summer. He named the Englishman as one of the two greatest players he faced there.

As Salzburg gets ready for its Champions League debut against Benfica on Wednesday night, Gloukh spoke to the Daily Mail. The fact that Curtis Jones is only 22 years old is nearly astounding. In fact, the Liverpool midfielder played the entire 90 minutes in the Reds 3-1 victory over Wolves to mark his 100th appearance for the Reds in all competitions. Jones will be hoping that this year is his true breakout season. However, the Reds midfielder has never really been able to solidify himself as a pillar for Jurgen Klopp.

He assisted England’s under-21 team in winning a significant tournament in the summer. Therefore, it would seem that the Liverpool midfielder does have some momentum behind him.

Gloukh was left speechless by the Liverpool midfielder at the U21 Euros

Two times on their route to glory, the Three Lions defeated Israel. The fact that Oscar Gloukh chose the players who most impressed him during the competition suggests that the Liverpool midfielder’s performances had a lasting impact on him.

He spoke to the Daily Mail about the battles against the eventual winners. Gloukh said

“It was special. The best I saw there, it was Curtis Jones and Angel Gomes. Both were playing as sixes and I think, against us, maybe they lost the ball once all game!”

He further added

“They moved the ball, their positioning [was good], they controlled the game – every minute. We didn’t touch the ball a lot. We were more defensive. But to see them, Premier League players, this is the level you want to go to, to get to. It was a good experience.”

Over the course of his career at Liverpool, Jones has received a lot of criticism. Additionally, there have been a few times when it has seemed like he may not be quite good enough to play at Anfield. But he is unquestionably an incredible talent when he is at his best. Liverpool is going through some changes right now, especially in the middle of the pitch. Therefore, Jones has a chance to advance. However, it seems as though this could be a highly significant season for the youngster.
