Lucas Paqueta speaks on moving to West Ham

Brazil international Lucas Paqueta has officially joined West Ham. He moved from Lyon to the English capital for a club record fee.

The midfielder was the subject of interest of a number of clubs. Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal were also interested in his services. However, it was West Ham who ultimately signed him.

Paqueta on joining West Ham

I am really glad to wear the West Ham jersey. I hope it will be a successful journey and I hope that we have a bright season. When the fans look at me they will see dedication and commitment. I will always give everything to perform well and help West Ham to win. I can comfortably play in two positions, No8 and No10, but mostly I just love to be on the pitch.

The Club has a beautiful history and last season we did great! I hope we can repeat it and have a great season this campaign. [The squad is full of] excellent players and we had two tough games [in the Europa League] last season.

Paqueta will be in line to make his debut against Spurs on Wednesday evening. Another London derby awaits him on the weekend. The Hammers will take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Paqueta expressed his excitement at the prospect of taking part in these high-stakes games.

Looking at the fixtures [coming up] was the first thing I did! I was happy because I love to play derbies and I believe we can play well and win. It will be very tough. But it’s a derby and the support from the fans will be crucial. We must prepare in order to win it.

West Ham have started poorly this season. They lie 16th in the table, and have scored only one goal so far. David Moyes will hope that Paqueta can help them overcome this slump.
