According to the Manchester Evening News, Pep Guardiola will return to the Man City coaching staff for their Premier League matchup against West Ham. Following surgery for a chronic back problem, Guardiola missed City’s victories over Sheffield United and Fulham before the international break.
The trip to London Stadium on Saturday, September 16, was in the Catalan coach’s sights as a potential return date. It now appears that this will be the case.
Simon Bajkowski reported in an update published by the Manchester Evening News on Monday, September 11th. He wrote that
“In order to help Man City prepare for their weekend match against West Ham United, Pep Guardiola is anticipated to return to the UK on Wednesday. When the players begin reuniting on Wednesday after their efforts on international service, Guardiola has recovered enough to be anticipated back.”
He further wrote
“Given his recent surgery, it is unclear how much of his regular role Guardiola will be able to play. But the Man City manager is expected to make a full recovery in time to manage West Ham, even if he is not able to be as involved there.”
Man City will benefit greatly from Pep Guardiola’s presence in the dugout
Even if Guardiola is not his usual enthusiastic self, his return to the dugout will be a great help to this weekend’s visitors.
The Man City manager has a wonderful record versus West Ham United over the years. Pep Guardiola have lost only one of his 15 games against them while winning 13 of them. This covers City’s victories over the Hammers by scores of 3-0 and 2-0 in the previous campaign. But before that, West Ham had three home games against City in all competitions without a loss.
Man City are in first place in the Premier League with 12 points out of a possible 12. The Cityzens travel to East London in excellent form as usual.
West Ham also had a solid start to the season. They are one of four teams in the Premier League that have 10 points or more and are closely pursuing Man City. It makes for an intriguing match at the London Stadium. West Ham United will have the opportunity to make a significant early-season statement at the London Stadium.
