Man Utd and Ten Hag’s Transfer Raid on Ajax

Man Utd might have to learn to compromise in the summer transfer window. Erik ten Hag is aiming for a major squad overhaul to blow life into his side. The changes will take time as problems are with almost every position. Fans need to be patient which after years of bad performance is just too much to ask from them.

Before Rangnick left the club he recommended as many as 10 new signings might be needed this summer. Some big players are leaving this summer like Pogba, Lingard, Martial, Ronaldo, Mata, Matic and more. The number of signings required may be bigger than it seems.

For the first team, Man Utd may need five or six new first-team players to maintain a certain standard for the first 11. Until this point, we’ve not even considered the bench. Academy players are an option but they still have a lot to learn. Players like James Garger, Shortire, and Williams have been promising but can they hold the pressure to defend the hopes of Old Trafford.

Man Utd are really bad in the transfer business and is one of the reasons why they have this huge debt to overcome. Players have left the team for free even after significant investment in their transfers. Paul Pogba is going to be a free agent this summer after united failed to resign the 89 million man.

Man Utd with their first signing of this summer

Rather than gambling on new faces, Ten Hag may rely on players with whom he has thrived earlier. One name that has emerged on top is Ajax’s defender Jurrien Timber (a potential replacement for Maguire)

Ten Hag has made Timber a champion and is a huge admirer of his former player from their time together in Amsterdam.

The 20-year-old is a promising talent with a bright future and has a lot to learn. Man Utd may not be the right choice but under Ten Hag he’s going to flourish and make the team defensively better.

Timber has the right attitude and something which the fans of Old Trafford demand. Timber is very versatile and can also play other roles only if Ten Hag wants him to.

Man Utd desperately needs a CDM and Timber could be the answer to this desperation. Fast, tall and commanding are some of the traits he possesses that fans wanted to see from club captain Harry Maguire.

The Dutch defender operates primarily at centre-back but also has experience playing on the right-hand side of defence under the guidance of Ten Hag. Playing in CDM is not recommended as it’s not his zone but if Ten Hag wants then why not. Man Utd can pull what Eddie Howe & Joelinton pulled at Old Trafford.

Since making his debut in March 2020, Timber has 64 appearances for Ajax as CB and 14 as RB since making his debut in March 2020. Timber this season has appeared 38 as the central defender and another five times as full-back.

Timber with all his potential will need regular game time with defensive roles. If he arrives at Old Trafford as a back-up for defensive roles then he shouldn’t move forward with this deal. A backup to Harry Maguire just makes no sense.

Old Trafford may be desperate to witness their first summer signing and in the end, it all falls to Ten Hag who will decide the fate of this great club.
