The race for signing Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland is heating up. Elite clubs across Europe have lined-up the bids in their quest to sign the striker. However, signing Haaland is not for everybody as is evident from his fees. But Manchester City may have leapfrogged every other club in the run to acquire Erling Haaland. City are missing a number-9 in their already mercurial squad, as they look to add the final piece of the jigsaw.
Manchester City were heavily tipped to sign Tottenham’s Harry Kane last summer. Pep Guardiola wanted a striker, and the City administration were ready to hand him one. As a result, the Cityzens tabled a massive bid of £150 million in front of Spurs. However, the North Londoners rejected the money keeping Kane with them. But City look to move on as they are not anticipating a ‘yes’ from Tottenham this summer as well.
Erling Haaland now tops the priority list of Manchester City. The Premier League side knows they face competition from some of the biggest clubs in Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United for Erling’s signing. But they have prepared an offer accordingly. According to Di Marzio, City have finalized a mouth-watering package of £246 million to sign Haaland this summer.
Erling Haaland to Manchester City: A breakdown of the £246 million deal
As it is clear, Manchester City are arguably the only ones who can afford the signing of Erling Haaland among other interested parties. But whoever comes, they will first have to pay the release clause of the Norwegian. And as City are inching closer, they have kept ready the amount of Haaland’s release clause, which stands at £63 million [€75 million].
Furthermore, Manchester City plan to offer Erling Haaland a five-year contract at first, with an annual wage of £25 million. This means, the English champions will further add £125 million to their ‘Haaland budget’. Till now, the package has soared up to £188 million, already crossing the amount City were offering for Harry Kane.
Finally, Manchester City will have to pay a hefty commission to the agent of Erling Haaland. Mino Raiola is the man handling Erling Haaland, as the famous agent needs no new introduction. Haaland’s move to City would earn the notorious agent a commission of at least £58 million. Raiola is said to be behind convincing Haaland to leave Dortmund in the summer. The controversial yet influential agent boasts a glamorous list of clients, which includes Paul Pogba, Marco Verratti, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Matthijs de Ligt, Zlatan Ibrahimovic among many.
All in all, the whopping deal of Erling Haaland to Manchester City churns out an amount of almost £250 million. However, City won’t regret investing the amount as Haaland is a guaranteed scorer. The 21-year-old has so far scored a massive 80 goals in 84 appearances for Dortmund, while chipping in with 22 assists as well. Haaland has often spoken on his exit this summer, even admitting that Dortmund “pressurized” him to make a decision. It looks certain that Manchester City have got the man to sharpen their attack.
