Manchester United May Sell Two Center Backs

Manchester United is set for a complete revamp this summer. Incoming boss Erik Ten Hag was in attendance as the Red Devils lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace on the final day of the season. It gave him a taste of what is to come, and an indication of how big the job is ahead of him.

There are indeed many holes in the United squad.  The defense is one of the many problems they have faced throughout the campaign. Marquee signing Harry Maguire is yet to live up to his 80 million price tag, Victor Lindelof has never capitalized on promising displays. A blockbuster move for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane also failed to live up to expectations with the Frenchman’s constant injury struggles.

Needless to say, this defensive crisis must be addressed urgently. The possible departures of Eric Bailly, Alex Tuanzabe, and Phil Jones make this an even more pressing concern.

Now, the new boss can show his ruthlessness. Reports suggest that both Maguire and Lindelof may be on their way out. Ten Hag is keen to bring in fresh, young blood and revamp the squad. His Ajax defender Jurrien Timber is on the shortlist. Villareal’s Pau Torres is another option for the Dutch tactician.

Bold Move By Manchester United?

Harry Maguire has made 102 Premier League appearances for United after his big-money move from Leicester City. But never lived up to those expectations. He has had his good moments, but eventually, his lack of athleticism has stopped him from being the elite defender United fans hoped they were buying. Victor Lindelof also was a promising talent purchased by Jose Mourinho, but he too has stagnated. A change of scenery may be the best deal for both parties. A case can also be made for both of them not getting to play in a proper, cohesive system. To experiment with such a possibility may also be on the cards for the new manager.
