Michail Antonio says that £30m Arsenal icon will be a great reinforcement for Newcastle United

Michail Antonio believes that Arsenal bench warmer Aaron Ramsdale can be a huge addition into Newcastle United squad. Antonio says that Aaron Ramsdale may consider a switch from Arsenal to St James Park.

Nick Pope, the first choice keeper of Newcastle is out due to injury for a foreseeable future. Though, his deputy keeper, Martin Dubravka is doing a pretty decent job, many feel it might not be enough to drag them to Champions League spot. Consequently, Ramsdale can emerge as a perfect replacement for their needs.

Speaking on Footballer’s Football podcast, Antonio cleans that Aaron can be a suitable replacement but also doubts that he can replace Nick in a long term race.

“I think it would be a very good fit. Newcastle like to play out from the back, Ramsdale can do that. We’ve seen him do that at Arsenal, he’s a very good shotstopper and a good goalkeeper. The question I have is that when Pope comes back what would they do? Pope is a very good shotstopper, one of the best, but he can’t play out, is Eddie Howe doing this so he can have a playing goalkeeper? Or just for the rivalry?”

Although Ramsdale will be a solution for the Magpies‘ no.1 crisis, a move might not be a solution for him. The English GK surely has great potential. He just needs to play weak in and week out to reach great heights.

This cannot be achieved at Newcastle once Nick Pope will return from his injury. Indeed, after spending such a long time on the bench, Ramsdale needs a club where he can be a regular starter. Being on the bench is definitely shaking his confidence and belief on himself.
