Morgan Sanson open to Aston Villa exit?

Aston Villa

According to Foot Mercato, French midfielder Morgan Sanson is open to an exit from Premier League side Aston Villa in the summer transfer window. Steven Gerrard is open to letting the French midfielder go on permanent bases in the summer window. French outfit Nantes are keen to sign Morgan Sanson next summer.

Morgan Sanson joined Aston Villa from the French side Marseille back in January 2021. The club reportedly paid a transfer fee close to £16 million. But the midfielder has not really impressed the Villa faithful and has never been able to cement his place in the starting lineup due to injury setbacks.

The midfielder has just recorded a total of 19 appearances in all competitions for the Premier League side. During this time he has recorded no goals or assists. But he has picked up three yellow cards in this time. While this term he has just started two of his nine appearances in the Premier League. The midfielder has not started a league game since mid-January. (stats via Transfermakrt)

Is Aston Villa making the wrong choice by letting Morgan Sanson go?

Aston Villa look set to have massive plans for the summer transfer window. The club is expected to have a lot of players coming into the club and leaving the club. Steven Gerrard is keen to sign new faces in the middle of the park. The club have been linked with PSG midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

But the club will certainly need to sell some assets too if they wanna bring in new faces to the club. Morgan Sanson seems to be the first player on the chopping block ahead of the summer. The 27-year-old had a really successful time with the French outfit Marseille. He made a total of 157 appearances in all competitions for the French side. During this time he recorded 25 goals and 22 assists. (stats via Transfermarkt)

The French midfielder’s stint in the Premier League has been nothing short of dissipating. The transfer has not worked out for both parties. Next summer may be the perfect time for the Villans to let go of the French midfielder. While Morgan Sanson will be hoping that a move back to his native county can help revive his career.
