On Sunday, Reliance Industries Limited announced plans to include a fifth cricket franchise in the Mumbai Indians (MI) family. The New York franchise of the United States of America’s Major League Cricket (MLC) will be operated by MI. The New York team will participate in the inaugural season of the MLC. It will commence on July 13th of this year.
With the addition of the New York team, the franchise will now have a cricket franchise in five different leagues. In addition to IPL and MLC, they own MI Cape Town in the SA20 league and MI Emirates in the ILT20. And also Mumbai Indians Women in the Women’s Premier League.
As per a statement released by the Mumbai Indians franchise, the team’s inclusion is subject to customary due diligence, negotiation, and execution of definitive binding agreements, and the receipt of necessary corporate, regulatory, and third-party approvals and compliances.

Nita Ambani, the Director of Reliance Industries has shared her enthusiasm for expanding the MI family. She stated that the franchise aims to establish itself as a global brand for fearless cricket while participating in America’s inaugural T20 League.
“I am thrilled to welcome our New York franchise to the growing MI Family! With our entry into the first cricket league in the US. I hope we are able to establish Mumbai Indians as a global brand of fearless and entertaining cricket! This is another new beginning for MI and I look forward to the exciting journey ahead,”
said Nita Ambani.
Other IPL franchises have also invested or collaborated with MLC teams. The Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, and Chennai Super Kings are among them. The KKR have taken ownership of the Los Angeles franchise. Whereas Delhi Capitals will collaborate with the Seattle Orcas, and the Chennai Super Kings franchise has acquired the Texas franchise.
