‘No chance’: Dean Jones says Arsenal have no chance to sign the Dutch defender in January

Pundit Dean Jones claims that Arsenal will not be able to sign €68m defender this January. Jones was talking about Matthejis De Ligt who is a potential target for Arsenal. The ex-Juventus star is branded as impossible for a transfer this winter. However, the Gunners will definitely add atleast one reinforcement this window as per reports. Although, Saliba and Gabriel are a very strong defensive duo, an injury to any one will cause problems. The backup of Kiwior and Ben White is available though but Kiwior may leave Emirates this month. Moreover, White’s right-back backup Tomiyasu is very injury-driven. Therefore, a proper centre-back will definitely be a key for the North London club. Besides this, Jurrien Timber is also out for a substantial time of the season.

Dean Jones was speaking about the links between the Dutch and Arsenal. He said,

When you think of a partner for Saliba going forward, there is probably not many you could get that would be better than De Ligt. That is definitely an interesting one for them to target. But, first and foremost, Arsenal are focusing on this January window and there is no chance that they are going to be getting De Ligt right now.”

Arsenal must focus on signing a forward rather than a defensive option. Their defence is second best in the league as well. The main problem with Arteta’s side is goalscoring. With the current form of forwards, it is not possible to present a title charge. Their key attackers have less than twenty goals so far this season combined. This is definitely not a good sign for a team that is in the hunt of a Premier League glory.
