Paul Merson gives his verdict on potential Arsenal target midfielder. Merson praises Aston Villa man Douglas Luiz is linked with Arsenal. The former striker believes that currently is currently very underrated. Not just underrated, but the top 5 undergrated players in the Premier League. Luiz has been on the books of Villa since the summer of 2019 when he joined from Manchester City. The Villans paid the Citizens a transfer fee of £15 million for the Brazil international midfielder.
He has been a key figure in the midfield for Unai Emery this season. Merson points out on the development and improvement of the Brazilian over the recent years.
“Douglas Luiz is an established campaigner, so I’m putting him at #5. When Arsenal wanted to sign him a year ago, but people didn’t really rate him too highly but now, everyone can see what he’s all about as he’s been absolutely ripping it up for Aston Villa this season.
He can sit as a holding midfielder and mop things up for his team but he also gets in the box and scores goals – as we’ve seen so often this season. With Casemiro and Fabinho past their best in recent seasons, the ex-Manchester City midfielder could also become a key player for Brazil in the years ahead.”
Arsenal fans will agree with Merson
Arsenal will surely want to secure his services from their rival club. However January transfer is looking impossible as for the recent scenario. Journalist Fabrizio Romano also reported that Arsenal staff highly rates Luiz. We all know that money talks in football but a move may not be possible. Vilas evening to become the Premier League champions and will not wish to sell the big man. The player will also wish to stay and secure a Champions League spot with this club.
