Former England international and now football pundit Paul Merson predicted that Aston Villa and English striker Danny Ings will have a much better season and explode next season.

Danny Ings joined Aston Villa from fellow Premier League side Southampton at the start of this term for a reported fee of £25 million. The English striker signed a three-year deal with Aston Villa. The deal seemed very good on paper but it has not quite gone to plan for both parties.

Danny Ings made a name for himself during his time with Southampton. The striker made a total of 100 appearances in all competitions for Southampton. In this time he has recorded 46 goals and 10 assists in all competitions for the Premier League outfit. (stats via Transfermarkt)

While Ings has really struggled to find his feet at Aston Villa. He has struggled to cement his place in the starting lineup. He had made a total of 21 appearances in all competitions this term. In this time he has recorded five goals and four assists this term. (stats via Transfermarkt)

But despite the struggle in front of the goal, there is no doubt about the ability of the striker. Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has recently switched to a two-striker formation, Starting Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins up top. Ings had looked much more at home after the formation change. Should Stevan Gerrard put his faith in the striker, there is no doubt that Ings will deliver.
