Pep Guardiola might emulate Rico Lewis’ feat, with young Man City player in the Champions League

Manchester City

Man City, under Pep Guardiola, will host Red Star Belgrade at the Etihad tonight to start the defence of their Champions League title.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of City, won’t be taking the game lightly since he is so determined to accomplish what only Real Madrid has done before, that is, successfully defending the Champions League title since its rebranding in 1992. Guardiola has already acknowledged that he would have to start some young players in the Carabao Cup. City still has a chance to win five trophies this year. If there was ever a Champions League match where he would do the same, it would definitely be this one.

Pep Guardiola might give Oscar Bobb an opportunity to show his worth

Oscar Bobb, could be given his big opportunity to shine if Guardiola decides to change things up.

Pep Guardiola has never been a fan of having overly large squads. He only nominated 20 players on his Premier League squad list last month, when teams could name 25 players over the age of 21, illustrates how small his current roster is.

Bobb was a standout in the Elite Development Squad. The EDS won the league title for a third straight year last season, matching the seniors’ feat.

Bobb’s season-long streak of strong play made an impression on Pep Guardiola. However, he has already made his debut in the Premier League this year. Bobb has played both on the wings and in the centre for the EDS. This will certainly be of interest to Guardiola because he frequently uses wide players who are natural midfielders, like Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva.

Pep Guardiola is unlikely to introduce Bobb right away tonight. But if City is comfortably ahead at any stage throughout the game, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if Bobb were to play.
