According to Birmingham Live, Rangers have made it clear that they are willing to let go of Joe Aribo for just £5 million as Aston Villa remains interested. Aribo will be entering the last year of his contract in July. Moreover, according to a few reports, Aribo has made up his mind that he wants to leave Scotland.
Aribo actually has a price of £10 million but Rangers are willing to lower the price because of his contractual situation. Steven Gerrard has taken a liking for the Rangers midfielder and wants to sign Aribo for Aston Villa. He displayed his quality in the 2-0 win of Rangers over Brondby in the Europa League.
Joe Aribo has scored 23 goals in 127 appearances and provided 21 assists for his teams. He also featured for Nigeria on the international stage and has impressed several managers. His performances have attracted interest from several Premier League clubs like Crystal Palace, Brentford, Watford, and Southampton.
Steven Gerrard has coached Joe Aribo when he was the manager of Rangers. He expressed that he would want him to stay at Rangers when he was the manager. This itself explains that Gerrard does want Aribo in his squad. At such a low price, he would be a bargain if Gerrard can play him at his full capacity.
Why Aston Villa should sign Joe Aribo from Rangers?
Players tend to follow the manager if the manager gets a new job somewhere else. Managers also like to have a few players who they already know and have already worked with to make their job a bit easier. This accelerates the process of adapting to a new environment both for the player and the manager.
Aribo is a player who constantly wants to learn and develop. Gerrard has advised him to use his physicality more as he is a strong and tall midfielder. The Former Rangers managers have complimented Aribo’s gameplay when he is angry as he uses his whole body to fight for the ball.
He will provide a variety of skillsets to Aston Villa as Villa don’t have many players who play as similarly as Aribo. Moreover, he will also provide the depth that is needed to play in Europe. Villa will then aim to play in Europe as they have made a lot of new recruitments this season.
Aston Villa could get a new skillset with the signing of Joe Aribo. The low price tag on him will surely attract a lot of other clubs. However, Aston Villa still remains the favorites but they must not be phased by the fact that they are the frontrunners. Moreover, Joe Aribo himself will profit a lot under Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa.
