Liverpool’s 2021/22 season was like a rollercoaster ride. The excitement among the fans to see their side win trophies lasted till the last game of the season. Reds enjoyed a thriller season as they won two trophies and came close to winning another two this season. In the 2021/22 season, it was the longest hunt for quadruple by an English Club. In this hunt, they won two trophies including the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. They also reached the final of the Champions League where they lost to Real Madrid. Their season ended on May 22, the longest season for any Premier League team this season.
GOALS GALORE FOR THE TEAM AND THE PLAYERS
Liverpool scored a total of 148 goals in all competitions in 63 games is the most they have managed in a single campaign in club history. Mohammed Salah became the first player to score on the opening day of the Premier League for five seasons. Sadio Mane surpassed the Chelsea legend Didier Drogba to become the highest-scoring African in the knockout stages of the Champions League with 15 goals.
Liverpool is only the second side in Premier League history after Manchester City to have three players score 15 or more goals in a single season. Mo Salah with 23, Mane with 16, and Diogo Jota with 15 goals helped create the record. Norwich who finished last in the Premier League table this season only scored 23 goals so you can only imagine the quality of players Liverpool has brought in.
Reds created a new club record this season by finding the net in 34 successive games in all competitions. The club beat the previous record of 31 successive games scored from April 1957 to January 1958.
Salah became the club’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Champions League with 34 goals overtaking club legend Steven Gerrard.
WINS GALORE
Klopp’s side ended the Premier League with the biggest ever lead on points over bitter rivals Everton who just survived relegation. Liverpool ended the season with 92 points and Everton ended the league with 39 points. Liverpool reached their seventh Champions League Final in the 21st Century, more than any other English team.
Reds recorded a total of 46 victories in one season, beating the previous record of 43 victories in 2019/20. Virgil Van Djik has never been on a losing side of a league game at Anfield for 64 games, the most for a single player in the Premier League history.
Liverpool has won the most Carabao Cup trophies, winning the trophy 9 times. The Reds became the first English club to win all Champions League group games. Jurgen Klopp recorded a total of 25 outright wins from Aston Villa in April to Athletico Madrid in November.
