Rodrigo Bentancur is being pursued by Aston Villa in a fresh way

Aston Villa

According to Tancredi Palmeri, Aston Villa have made fresh contact with Rodrigo Bentancur over a move to the Premier League. The Uruguayan international has failed to get regular game time under Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus. Aston Villa wants to strengthen their midfield before the transfer window closes.

Aston Villa have already made quite a few strong signings in January that can help them challenge for a European spot in the next season. However, that was not enough for Steven Gerrard as he needs more depth in his midfield. Villa have identified Bentancur struggling at Juventus and are willing to sign him.

Juventus are asking for €25 million for Bentancur’s services as Aston Villa also remains keen on signing the Uruguayan as per Palmeri. However, both the clubs will have to speed up the process as the deadline is near as they may miss out on a good deal. Bentancur must be desperate to get regular game time and show what he is capable of.

He will also have competition at Aston Villa but is likely to get more game time than he gets at Juventus. Bentancur’s European experience might help the Villa squad to learn a few things about European football. Moreover, Steven Gerrard can also personally help Uruguayan thrive for Villa under his guidance.

What can Rodrigo Bentancur provide Aston Villa?

Rodrigo Bentancur can play in multiple different positions in the midfield and also on either flank. He is great with both feet which helps him to play on either side of the pitch. He can play the box-to-box role or he can also play as a mezzala and also as an attacking midfielder. This versatility also provides his managers some tactical flexibility.

He is an energetic player who works constantly and uses skills to get space from defenders. However, the most important characteristic is that he is a very tall personality and is very good at physical duels. Bentancur is also a proper target on set pieces and can use this ability to win the ball back very quickly.

His great control, quick footwork, and technique combined with good vision and accurate passing allows him to get away from defenders and create a chance for his team. Such great passing also allows him to dictate the tempo of the game. He can also play as the target-man or as the second striker due to his great physicality.

There is one obstacle that Juventus may not allow both Rodrigo Bentancur and Arthur to leave in the same window. Arthur is linked with a move to Arsenal and Juventus may only allow one of them to leave in January. Nonetheless, Bentancur will be a great signing for Aston Villa and Steven Gerrard as he is capable of playing a lot of roles in the midfield.
