Spurs to be without new signing in Chelsea encounter

Spurs are set to be without new signing Clement Lenglet in their clash against Chelsea. Oliver Skipp is set to miss out as well.

Tottenham Hotspur are full of confidence after a positive end to last season. They went on to sign six players. Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster were two free agents who came to North London from Inter Milan and Southampton respectively. Richarlison and Yves Bissouma arrived after making their names at Everton and Brighton. Djed Spence was a prospect signed from Middlesbrough, while Clement Lenglet arrived on loan from Barcelona.

Chelsea on the other hand did not have the best of endings. They faced an injury crisis and a number of off-field issues that saw their long-time owner Roman Abrahamovic depart. They went on to lose Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen as well. However, they did make some good additions in Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella.

How Chelsea and Spurs Fare

The two teams go into this fixture on the back of a victory though. Spurs beat Southampton comprehensively, coming back from a goal down to win 4-1. Dejan Kulusevski ran the show, scoring and assisting one. Eric Dier and Ryan Sessegnon were the other two unlikely scorers, with Emerson Royal forcing an own-goal.

Chelsea meanwhile beat Everton by a single goal, courtesy of a Jorghinio penalty. The game looked tight for many parts, but Chelsea proved to be decisive. Everton had some good chances, but the pairing of Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly overcame them.

Spurs look like the team in form, but Chelsea have always been a massive bogey. The North Londoners have failed to beat them on all but one occasion in the Premier League era at Stamford Bridge. This game will be a true litmus test of Antonio Conte’s Spurs team.
