According to several reports, Steven Gerrard wants to make two big-money signings at Aston Villa in the winter transfer window. Gerrard was appointed as the new Villa manager after Dean Smith was sacked. The club is expected to back Steven Gerrard with funds that will allow him to make two expensive signings. Their expensive sale of Jack Grealish to Manchester City got themselves enough funds. Following which they were able to sign Leon Bailey, Emiliano Buendia, Danny Ings and get Axel Tuanzebe on loan from Manchester United.

Steven Gerrard’s priority signings are a center-back and a central midfielder. The English coach wants to strengthen the spine and the core of his team. Aston Villa have strengthened their attack in the summer but now they have to focus on the foundation. Moreover, Villa are currently 15th on the Premier League table. That is not an improvement from where they finished last season. Further, they have made enough investment this season to have lost 4 places on the table from last season. Their poor run of results saw themselves sacking Dean Smith and appoint Steven Gerrard.

Steven Gerrard has done a phenomenal job at Rangers. In his guidance Rangers won the Scottish Premiership title without losing a single league match. In addition to that, the Gers were able to defeat their rivals Celtics back-to-back. Aston Villa paid the compensation of £4 million to Rangers for the release of Steven Gerrard.

How Steven Gerrard can help Aston Villa reach greater heights?

Steven Gerrard is one of the most respected players in the Premier League. Nevertheless, he recently took a job at Rangers as their manager. As a result, Rangers excelled throughout the season and there was no team that could defeat them the entire season, not even Celtics. Moreover, Rangers won their first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years and their 55th overall in the top-flight last season.

In conclusion, many regarded Gerrard to be a Premier League manager in near future. He was also linked to a possible move to the Newcastle job. Further, Gerrard’s former teammate suggested him to be the successor of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Aston Villa won their first match with Steven Gerrard as their manager against Brighton. The Seagulls were in great form at the start of the season and are currently 9th on the table. Steven Gerrard came in at Villa and won his first game against Brighton 2-0 while securing a clean sheet. Aston Villa were not able to win or keep even one clean sheet in their last five games before Steven Gerrard.

There is no doubt that Steven Gerrard is a brilliant manager. However, if Aston Villa wants to challenge for a spot in Europe, they will have to back Gerrard as much as they can since there are more chances of setbacks in the top-flight. Aston Villa can be a strong force under Steven Gerrard in a few years’ time and will be capable of upsetting a few big clubs. Villa already have a few excellent players at the club but Gerrard’s requirement to strengthen the spine shows that there are still a few areas where they can improve.
