Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has admitted that he is making Marvelous Nakamba do extra training in order to have the midfielder back from injury for the Tottenham Hotspurs clash.

Marvelous Nakamba picked up an injury back in December against Liverpool in the league. He has since undergone surgery on his knee and has been in rehabilitation ever since. The injury setback came right after the midfielder picked up the Aston Villa’s November player of the month award.

The 28-year-old was ever-present in the Aston Villa starting lineup before his knee injury. He has made a total of 25 appearances across all competitions this term. While he is yet to record any goal returns this term. He has shown his qualities on the pitch elsewhere. (stats via Transfermarkt)

The midfielder has recorded 2 tackles, 0-8 interceptions, and 0-9 dribbles per game in the Premier League this term. On top of that, he has maintained an impressive pass accuracy of 86.6% in the league this term. (stats via WhoScored)

Marvelous Nakamba’s energy and physicality in the middle of the park are unmatched by any member of the Aston Villa midfielder. Nakamba did start all the first five games of the Stevan Gerrard reign. He showed his talent and really impressed Stevan Gerrard during that time. While the side have found a bit of consistency in the middle of the park with Ramsey, McGinn, and Luiz. But Nakamba’s return to the side will be really appreciated by Stevan Gerrard.

“he’s been missed”: Stevan Gerrard on Marvelous Nakamba

Talking during his press conference on Friday talking about Marvelous Nakamba, Stevan Gerrard said:

“[I am] extremely happy because when we came into this job, we had the right boost and bounce, and we found a bit of consistency in the team early on,” “Marv was a really big part of that. “He’s still got a bit to go in terms of where he’s at physically. But the part he played in how we wanted the team to look, he’s been missed. “

“We can’t get him up to speed quick enough. This week, we’ve pushed him and he’s had extra training. He’s an important player for us. So, when we get him back capable of 90 minutes at this level, I’m sure he’ll be a big help to the team.”
