Since its inauguration in 2008 Indian Premier League has come a long way. Over the years IPL has become the most popular domestic tournament all over the globe. As the 15th season of the tournament arrives in 2022 it is going to expand as well with two more teams being added. The two new teams are Ahmedabad owned by CVC Capitals and Lucknow is owned by RPSG groups.

The arrival of the new means that a mega auction is going to take place. The old teams have been asked by the IPL governing body for the retention of players. However, there are certain rules regarding the retention of players. A maximum of four players can be retained by every franchise and it can either be three Indian players and one overseas player or two Indian and overseas players. The mega auction is scheduled to take place either in December or in January. According to the governing body, the new team will be able to pick 3 players from available players.

Certainly, both teams will try to build a solid core to build the team around them. They would look to get a skipper for their team in the first spot. For the three players, a salary cap of 33 crores is allocated to both teams. Of the three players two can be Indian and one overseas. Now let’s look after the three players the Ahmedabad franchise would look to get before the mega auction.

David Warner

David Warner is one of the most successful overseas players if not the best in the history of IPL so far. Certainly, it is sure that Warner will for sure be wearing a new jersey in the 15th edition of the IPL. The Aussie is one of the best openers of the game as well as a great captain for his previous franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, in the recently concluded IPL Warner became out of favor and was left out of the XI both as a captain as well as the opener.

Warner is an immensely experienced captain and his achievements with SRH are proof of that. In terms of batting, he has an excellent record. He has won the Orange Cap 3 times which is the most by a player in IPL so far. We have seen how the Aussie has over the years groomed young players and helped his teammates to reach their best. A player of Warner’s caliber will for sure go to the auctions as would be picked up by any one of their two new franchises for sure.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin recently made his comeback into the limited-overs for India. After making his comeback in the T20 World Cup Ashwin has been in excellent form. The veteran spinner has shown that he can still be an important part of the team. The quality he possesses would for sure make him one of the most sought players if he goes into the auction.

Ashwin’s performance after the comeback would certainly create a lot of interest in him. Moreover, after he was released the owners of the new team would be looking at him for sure. The 35-year-old has played 167 matches and has taken 145 wickets with a great economy of 6.91. As Ashwin is such an experienced player and someone who has led a team in the tournament, adding him to the team would be great. With all of this in mind, the think tank of Ahmedabad can certainly sign him before he goes to the auction.

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan has played for the last three seasons for Delhi Capitals. However, the India opener is retained by the franchise. He has been in the IPL since its inauguration in 2008. Over the years, Dhawan has played for Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Dhawan is a very experienced player. He has played a total of 192 matches and has scored 5784 runs with an average of 34.84.

He has also been a captain and would be a great addition to any team that he plays for. Dhawan has previously been with David Warner and if both of them can become opening partners.
