Why WTC Finals in England?: Aakash Chopra questions

After winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy India sealed their slot in the World Test Championship Final. The result of New Zealand’s winning against Sri Lanka favored India. The mighty Aussies and the Dominant Indian side face each other. The WTC final is scheduled in The Oval. Aakash Chopra questions the venue for the WTC finals.

Aakash Chopra tweeted that

“Why WTC Finals happen only in England? Neutral venue but it mirrors non-Asian conditions. Why does it have only one game? not have a Test series to determine the World Test Champion? Why not have one test each at home and one at a neutral venue? Ambitious…yes, of course.”

He further added that

“No tournament lasts two years to find its winner. So, please don’t throw ‘final should be one knockout game’ in my direction. Test cricket is a very unique sport…lasts five days. Championship lasts two years. Finals can surely be a 3-match series,”

The final and fourth test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was important for India to seal the spot. However, the Kiwis beat Sri Lanka by 2 wickets to make India qualify for the WTC finals. The former New Zealand Skipper scored a wonderful century under pressure and finished the game in style. Daryl Mitchell’s acceleration in the middle over was so vital in New Zealand’s chase. Unfortunately, he missed his much-deserved century on that day.

India becomes the first team to qualify for the WTC Finals two times. This is under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. A fact is that Rohit Sharma as a captain never lost a match in the finals.
