WPL opening encounter Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Giants

The BCCI announced that the Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Giants match, the opening match of the WPL has been rescheduled. The match will now commence at 8 pm IST at the DY Patil Stadium, with the toss scheduled for 7.30 pm. Fans will be permitted to enter the stadium from 4.00 PM IST onwards, and the opening ceremony. It will commence at 6.25 pm IST, which will be a grand affair, according to the board’s statement.

WPL: how are teams shaped up before the match?

Beth Mooney, an Australian cricketer, will captain the Gujarat team, while Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the Mumbai team. Mooney was purchased for ₹2 crores by the Gujarat Giants and while her Australian teammate Ashleigh Gardner was bought for ₹3.2 crore during the auction. In the meantime, Sneh Rana, who was acquired by Gujarat for Rs75 lakhs, will aim to deliver a good performance.

Harmanpreet was bought for ₹1.8 crores by Mumbai and will aim to replicate her success as international cricket. Pooja Vastrakar, an Indian all-rounder, was a significant acquisition for Mumbai for just ₹1.9 crores.

In the first season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), five teams will compete for the title. Although the names Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore are popular in the IPL, only Mumbai Indians have previous experience winning titles. The eliminator will take place on March 24 at the DY Patil Stadium while the final will be held on March 26 at the Brabourne Stadium. WPL will be a great opportunity for young women from around the world to showcase their talent. That has always been the mantra for IPL, where talent meets opportunity.
