ARSENAL AND ARTHUR MELO TRANSFER LINKS FULL STORY

According to Athletic, Arsenal were offered the chance to sign Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus. However, the Gunners rejected the chance to sign the midfielder. The Gunners were also linked with a move for Arthur last summer. However, the reports were rejected as rumors. Mike Arteta did not see Arthur fitting well at the club. Hence, the midfielder ended up signing for Liverpool.

The Gunners previously wanted to sign a new winger. However, their priorities changed after the injury to Mohamed Elneny. The injury forced them to change their transfer plans. Hence, Arsenal explored a number of midfielders on deadline day. But, the Gunners could find the right midfielder. They reportedly wanted a midfielder that would fit the long-term plans of club manager Mikel Arteta.

THE GUNNERS TRIED HARD TO SIGN A MIDFIELD TARGET ON THE DEADLINE DAY

The report also claims that the Gunners wanted to sign Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz on the deadline day. Douglas Luiz was also keen on the move. However, both the clubs failed to agree a fee on the deadline day. Aston Villa wanted 40 million for the Brazilian midfielder. The midfielder has only one year left on his contract at Villa. Hence, the club decided not to overspend.

Another player linked with a move was Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans. However, Arsenal had some reservations about the physical and defensive aspects of his game. Hence, the Gunners will now have to see whether their depth at No.6 holds up in the coming months. Mikel Arteta has always said that the club will not panic and sign the wrong players.

Hence, Arsenal failed to sign a player on the deadline day. However, it was a great window for the Gunners. They managed to complete the shrewd signings of Gabriel Jesus, Matt Turner, and Oleksandr Zinchenko. The Gunners also signed two exciting prospects in the form of Fabio Viera and Marquinhos.
