Everton have officially completed the signing of James Tarkowski from Burnley. The Clarets were relegated on the final day of the 2021/22 season. A number of players were, as a result, on the exit door. English defender James Tarkowski is one of them.
The announcement of the retained list on June 10th confirmed James Tarkowski’s exit from Burnley. He has now signed a four-year deal with Everton. Frank Lampard considers him a key part of the rebuild at Goodison.
The Toffees escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth last season. It is high time that they revamp their squad and get their act together in order to avoid a similar situation. The addition to Tarkowski is a step in that direction.
Tarkowski will be reunited with Michael Keane, a former player for Burnley. It was in fact Keane’s move to Goodison in the summer of 2017 that offered Tarkowski his first chance to establish himself as a regular for Burnley.
It is safe to say that Tarkowski made the most of that opportunity. He formed a formidable partnership with Ben Mee in defence. They both had an extremely brutish style of play, which coupled with the cold and rain at Turf Moor, made it a daunting away day. Pep Guardiola once compared going to Burnley to visiting the dentist.
Tarkowski On His Move
Tarkowski was buzzing to sign with the Merseyside club. He spoke highly of his new club in his first interview.
I’m excited to have joined Everton. It’s a massive club. I’m really looking forward to the years ahead and I’m thankful for the opportunity that I’ve been given. Speaking to the manager, it was very important to see what he wants from his players and his team, what he saw in me and why he wanted to sign me.
I’m an ambitious person, I want to achieve, I want to win things and I’ve come here to be successful. And then there are the Everton fans. The support they gave the team last season was incredible.
You saw just how big the fanbase is. Despite a difficult season, Everton fans got behind their team more than ever. I think they are a massive factor about this club.James Tarkowski
