Idrissa Gueye set for Everton return

Three years after selling Gueye to PSG, Everton is in talks to re-sign him. Frank Lampard is eager to improve his midfield options before the transfer window shuts.

Newly appointed PSG manager Christopher Galtier is eager to add a midfielder in his squad. Gueye is deemed surplus to requirements and needs to be sold in order to free up a spot in the team.

Foot Mercato reports that PSG is hopeful that a deal will be reached soon. The Senegalese wants a three-year contract.  However, Everton are seeking to give him a two-year deal at Goodison Park because of his age. It is believed that a compromise will be reached soon.

What Can Gueye Offer

Gueye has been a staple of the Parisian midfield since his arrival. He adds much-needed steel and dynamism to the centre of the park. He is an important asset in bigger games, where he can win the ball back and stop counterattacks. In a top-heavy team like PSG, he used to do a lot of the dirty work to cover up for the lack of pressing by the forward line.

The Senegal international has shown his tenacity in big games, putting in big performances during PSG’s run to the final in 2020. He followed it up with a great performance against Bayern Munich in the Round of 16 the following season.

Undoubtedly, Idrissa Gueye will be a huge signing for the Toffees. His experience and ability will help them avoid being in a relegation fight like the previous season.

In case a deal does not go through, Everton have Harry Winks of Tottenham Hotspur lined up as an alternative. The English international has fallen out of favour under Antonio Conte in North London and is looking for a move.  Spurs have had a good business relationship with the Toffees in recent months, exchanging Dele Alli and Richarlison respectively.
