Jacob Ramsey’s surge at his boyhood club

Ramsey is now considered undroppable at Aston Villa. The youngster has earned his spot through scintillating displays for the club. The attacking midfielder has scored 6 league goals this season, out of which 3 have come against clubs placed above Villa (Arsenal, Manchester United, and West ham United).

Moreover, Ramsey is a perfect mould for Gerrard’s system which demands high pressing. On average, the midfielder presses the opponent 20 times per 90 minutes. Further on, on 5.4 occasions out of those 20 Ramsey has won the ball for his team. Also, Ramsey attempts almost 30 passes per game out of which 24 are directed in the opposition’s half. As evident, there’s a lot of attacking intent offered by the academy product.

Ramsey has started 26 league games this season out of his 30. Moreover, the midfielder has started 20 of 21 Premier League matches since Gerrard’s appointment. Ramsey is bound to achieve new heights under Gerrard at Aston Villa. He will be 26 by the time his new deal expires and in the prime of his career. But given the chart of his improvement, Ramsey will definitely attract the big guns of the Premier League. However, as of now, it’s Aston Villa who gets to reap the benefits of their academy boy.
