Leeds United have announced Joel Robles as the new goalkeeper signing. He is expected to be the third-choice goalkeeper for the season.

However, manager Jesse Marsch expects him to play a more involved role in the present and future. He wants Robles to further push the goalkeepers in the squad this season.

LEEDS UNITED AND JOEL ROBLES TRANSFER SAGA FULL STORY

Leeds United have signed Joel Robles on a free transfer. This is following his departure from La Liga side Real Betis. The goalkeeper has agreed to sign a one-year deal at Elland Road. He has also plenty of experience in the Premier League. The Spanish goalkeeper has made 65 appearances for Everton. He then signed for Real Betis.

The goalkeeper also has experience in winning big matches. He played for Wigan in their triumph over Manchester City at Wembley in 2013. His experience will benefit Leeds United players. The goalkeeper is also expected to play some cup games this season. However, the main role for him this season at the club will be to push the goalkeepers to their max in the training.

WHAT IS THE ROLE JESSE MARSCH EXPECTS JOEL ROBLES TO PLAY THIS SEASON?

Jesse Marsch wanted an experienced third-choice goalkeeper. This is due to them having two very young goalkeepers in the squad. Leeds manager Jesse Marsch said in a press conference,” The role is [for both Klaesson and Robles] to push Illan to a higher level.“The goal is to have Kris as the number 2 but he has to earn it. “Joel is here for all the right reasons and push the goalkeeping group.”

It remains to be seen whether Robles will be available on the bench against Southampton. Although, it is unlikely that Leeds United will change their goalkeepers role so early this season. Klaesson is going to be the second-choice goalkeeper for this season. However, if he does not perform well, they have a very good third-choice goalkeeper in the form of Joel Robles.

Joel Robles has made 65 appearances for Everton. He was one of the best goalkeepers under Roberto Martinez. He then moved to Real Betis. The goalkeeper also made 78 appearances for the La Liga side in the four seasons.
