News : It seems Liverpool are quite busy both on and off the field. The Reds are still fighting on three fronts, competing in the Champions League, the FA Cup and league title. Off the pitch, the transfer rumours have started surrounding the Reds as the summer approaches.

Moreover, Liverpool are on course of experiencing a very happening summer transfer window, with Mohamed Salah’s extension being the talk of the town. However, there’s more to Liverpool than the Salah news. Roberto Firmino’s extension is stalled as well and the ECHO’s Theo Squires has just provided an update on the same.

Theo Squires hosted a QnA on Thursday as the Liverpool writer answered many questions ranging from Firmino’s contract situation to the club’s summer plans. All the latest of Liverpool news is here from Squires’ bullets.

Liverpool News: No progress as of yet with Firmino’s extension

One of the Liverpool fans asked Squires about news on Firmino’s contract which expires in just over 12 months. Firmino has undergone a change in his role at the club since signing of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz. The Brazilian has given up his place in the starting eleven to Jota who has fired in loads of goals upon his arrival. However, Firmino remains a crucial part of the Liverpool squad which still counts on him.

About Firmino’s extension, Squires said, “It’s an interesting one with Firmino. For so long he was Liverpool’s go-to man and rarely injured but they have evolved beyond him this season. I agree, I struggle to see Liverpool keeping all three forwards beyond next summer but never say never. Mane has obviously done his own hopes of a new deal no harm, with his agent recently saying talks were on hold until the summer. Plenty has been written about Salah with no breakthrough yet.”

The writer continued, “I’d imagine the club will see what happens with Salah and Mane and then decide what to do with Firmino. They’ll make an offer they consider fair at some point and will just expect him to want to stay. Then it’s up to the Brazilian if it’s right for him or time to move on.”

Summer exodus expected

The hot news is, Liverpool have completed the signing of Fabio Carvalho from Fulham. The talented 19-year-old will join the Reds in the summer, adding more to the attacking depth. While there may be more signings, outgoings will be in plenty as well. As many as eight players could leave according to Squires.

“Origi and Karius will go at the end of their contracts. Milner and Adrian are currently set to leave when their own deals expire too. I expect Minamino, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Neco Williams and Nat Phillips to be available, then it’s just whether the club receives any suitable bids or not,” admitted Squires.

He further added, “I think Keita will get his new contract. Jones could potentially play more with midfield departures. Same for Elliott. The likes of Jones and Gomez will only go if they push for an exit.”

As indicated by Squires, Liverpool could endure a chaotic summer. The Reds certainly need strengthening in some areas if they are to continue to fight for every silverware available. That’s all for now in Liverpool news round-up.
