Premier League title holders Manchester City are contemplating a move for Luka Modric from Real Madrid next summer.
Pep Guardiola is a manager known for his love of midfielders. The Catalan boss once quoted, “I would like to have a thousand midfield players in my squad.” Pep is eager to recruit a player similar to Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets and believes Modric would be the ‘ideal midfielder’ to do so.
The Croatian international turned 36 on Thursday. He has entered the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu and is weighing up his options in the latter stages of his career.
City view Modric as ‘ideal taget’
Guardiola currently has a range of top-quality midfielders to pick from. Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva to name them. However, with Silva eager to leave the club, Pep would naturally want to sign a replacement.
A midfielder himself during his time as a player, Pep Guardiola always has an eye on players in a similar position that could enhance his side.
According to reports, the former Barcelona and Bayern manager has set his sights on one of the greatest midfielders to ever play the game.
Luka Modric signed from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2012. Since then, he has established himself as one of the greatest ever midfielders to take the field for Madrid. After a torrid debut season, the Croatian bounced back and helped the Spanish giants to La Decima exceptionally.
Despite his age, the Croatian continues to dazzle on the pitch and remains an integral part of the Real Madrid setup. However, his contract is set for expiry in 2022 and the Citizens are waiting to lure him back to England.
The veteran midfielder has made 392 appearances for Los Blancos, bagging 28 goals and 62 assists. He has added 4 Champions League trophies, 2 La Liga titles and 1 Copa del Rey to his cabinet of honours.
