Manchester United is preparing an offer of £ 34.1 million for Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio. According to reports, the Reds are also willing to offer bonuses worth a further £ 4.3 million to get the deal over the line.

The young Portuguese defender is also attracting interest from other Premier League sides Wolves and Newcastle United. Newly appointed United Boss Erik Ten Hag is looking to revamp the squad in his first window in charge. Defense is an area where he wants to improve heavily.

Ajax star Jurien Timber is another name on the list. Pau Torres is also the other name being discussed. Now you can throw Goncalo Inacio’s name on Manchester United’s list of options.

Many Portuguese outlets claim United have an advantage over both Wolves and Newcastle. The 20-year-old considers Manchester United as the best option. He considers Wolves and Newcastle as not attractive and he would rather join a club competition for major honors.

United have themselves not won a trophy in recent times. But Erik Ten Hag can spark a return to success in the coming seasons. Goncalo is just 20. But he has made almost 50 appearances and has represented Portugal at U-17 and U-21 levels. Inacio is said to have a release clause of £ 38.4 million.

As of yet, United are not ready to pay that much upfront. But the latest offer with bonuses would take the fee close to the same amount as the clause figure. At such young age, if a young defender has so much experience at the club and international level, the player has a high chance of doing well at big clubs. The situation of center backs at United makes it perfect for someone like Goncalo to steady the ship from the defense for the team.
