Wilson to sign for Aston Villa

It’s been just over 4 months since Steven Gerrard left Rangers for Aston Villa. A lot of talks surrounded Gerrard’s departure, especially about who is he going to sign for his new club from Rangers.

The answer to that during the January transfer window has been no one. 4 months later, Gerrard may be closing in on his first signing from his former club. According to some reports, Ranger’s youngster Rory Wilson may leave to join Gerrard’s squad. Villa has a very high probability to win this race and is the front runner.

Why Wilson?

The striker’s performance was promising for his side in the UEFA youth league. His performance this season has lured a host of English clubs. After scoring 40 goals this season at the youth level there’s a reason why some big clubs want to sign him.

Many scouts attended Scotland’s U-17 match against Germany last week. A heroic double against the Czech Republic demonstrated he’s not just another English hype. Wilson has a professional deal at Ibrox but it looks like the club will lose one of its brightest prospects.

The lure of the premier league has yet again attracted a promising talent. Steven Gerrard knows him very well and if things go right, he can establish him as an unstoppable force. Gerrard has made it clear he wants to develop Villa’s up-and-coming talents to nurture them according to his first-team setup.

We want to engage the academy. There’s fantastic work going on there with fantastic people. We don’t want to interfere or control the academy certainly from U-18s down.

In terms of the second team or U-23s, it’s important where the players are coming to train or called up. Being a part of the squad adds responsibility and they should know everything about us. Like how we play and what’s expected from them should be clear.

This relationship will evolve and get strong over time. Everyone must be in line from top to bottom. Yes, I’m looking to more talent coming through and developing more players.

Rangers will receive a compensation fee if Wilson leaves. This fee could be around 300,000 pounds. This won’t be the first time Scottish fans are witnessing a young talent leave. The bad thing about leaving is that they’re sold for pennies.
