Jamie Carragher took a dig at Connor Coady following his loan move to Everton this season. Coady was a Liverpool academy player as a child, but made his name at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Now, the centre-back is set to join the Reds’ arch-rivals, Everton.

Jamie Carragher is acquainted with Coady. The duo met on Monday Night Football, where Coady was a guest two years ago. Klopp made a joke about Coady being Klopp’s target to replace the injured Van Djik.

You won’t be aware but Jurgen Klopp tonight has done his Champions League press conference ahead of the game with Ajax.  He actually mentioned you and two other players who he thinks could actually be replacements for Virgil van Dijk. Would that come into your thinking?

The pair had a hearty laugh about it, before the presenter cut them short. It shows that they have a good relationship, and jokes regularly fly when the two meet.

When the deal for Coady’s move to Goodison was finalized, Carragher called him a “turncoat” and wished him luck on his Instagram story.

At Goodison Park, Coady is joined by fellow centre-back James Tarkowski, ex-Wolves teammate Ruben Vinagre, and attacker Dwight McNeil. Ben Godfrey’s three-month absence following his fibula fracture against Chelsea. Yerry Mina is also waiting for an ankle scan after a knock.

Coady At Everton

Despite his Red roots, Coady is eager to play for the club and impress the supporters. He expressed his delight to be playing for the club in his first interview.

It’s incredible to join Everton. As soon as I heard the interest, from the manager but also the Football Club itself. I really wanted to be part of it straight away. I’m over the moon to join.

I’ve grown up around the city, I know the Football Club, how big this club is and what it means to the supporters. I’m someone who was desperate to come here, to play for this club. I’ve got family and friends who are massive Evertonians
