Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez stood out for Argentina’s 3-0 victory against Bolivia in the World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.
In the 31st minute, the midfielder, who played the full 90 minutes, gave the World Cup champions their first goal. The highest rating given to a La Albiceleste player for yesterday’s match was given to him by the Argentine daily Ole. They rated him a 9/10 for his most recent performance. They also have a piece called “Giant Enzo” that focuses on the performance of the 22-year-old.
Before joining Chelsea earlier this year, Fernandez left River Plate for Benfica in the summer of last year. He was especially brilliant in December 2022, when Argentina won the World Cup.
The Chelsea star’s performances has been “phenomenal”
Ole claims that it is “already clear that nothing weighs on him.” Enzo Fernandez demonstrated yesterday in La Paz that even playing for the first time at such a high altitude wouldn’t prevent him from making an impression for his nation.
Despite the difficult circumstances in Bolivia, the Chelsea player stated
“The truth is that I was able to adapt well and I felt good the entire game. Perhaps the most difficult thing was the first 20 minutes.”
Fernandez was taken aback by the enthusiastic reception that he and his colleagues received from Bolivian fans.
Fernandez scored his first goal for Chelsea in their EFL Cup victory over AFC Wimbledon.
In the future games for the west London club, Mauricio Pochettino will be rooting for his fellow countryman to continue his recent success.
Can Enzo continue his impressive performances in Stamford Bridge?
There will hopefully be a greater expectation for him to contribute more in the final third now that he is playing in a more advanced position for Chelsea. However, as he has done so effectively this season, his primary responsibility will still be to keep the ball moving and create opportunities for his teammates. Fernandez has the potential to advance if he can start scoring more goals.
It will now be intriguing to see if Pochettino starts the former Benfica player or places him on the bench when Chelsea plays Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday. He has travelled extensively during this international break, so it will be interesting to see.
