Joao Cancelo, who is on loan from Man City, revealed in an exclusive interview with the Catalan publication SPORT that he is eager to succeed at Barcelona. The Catalans consider Cancelo to be a major victory. Cancelo was once regarded as one of the top full-backs in the world, and Barcelona is hoping that he can make a significant contribution during his one-year stay at the club.

Joao Cancelo came off the bench in Barcelona’s triumph against Osasuna shortly before the break for international play. He will be hoping to make his first start in Blaugrana colours when Real Betis visit Catalonia this weekend.

Joao Cancelo, a newcomer to Barcelona, is still racking up minutes despite a quiet August. The full-back, who began for Portugal against Slovakia last week, played for a further 30 minutes against Luxembourg on Monday.

Cancelo talked exclusively to SPORT following the game, just like Joao Félix did. He promised that he would do whatever it takes to “explode” as a player for Barça. Cancelo said

“I’m going to do everything to explode at Barça. I’ll try to show my football, my quality, but always with the help of the team , because I need it and I think we have a lot of quality in the squad. I hope it will be a great season”

Joao Cancelo is happy with his role under Xavi

Joao Cancelo also expressed his admiration for Xavi directly. He stated his readiness to carry out the instructions given by the coach. He said

“The coach gives me a little freedom and I like that. I feel comfortable playing inside but also outside. I will adapt to everything he asks of me.”

The Portugal international found up running into some old friends at Barcelona, where players like Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres welcomed him to the team.

For some time now, Joao Cancelo hasn’t been a part of Pep Guardiola’s plans for Manchester City. Due to that, he was sent on loan to Bayern Munich last season. After months of rumours this summer, he finally decided to transfer to Camp Nou.

Though his contract with Man City expires in 2027, his performance in Spain will now determine whether the La Liga heavyweights approach him about a permanent transfer at the end of the current campaign.
